COVID-19 death toll reaches 212 as an individual who tested positive for the virus passed away while seeking treatment.
According to Health Protection Agency (HPA), the 81-year-old woman from Villingili, Gaafu Alifu Atoll, passed away around 4.55 am.
This year, Maldives saw the largest surge in COVID-19 cases during May, which lead to 88 deaths within the month.
Following the surge, the government tightened restrictions until the end of June.
The restrictive measures dramatically decreased case numbers. With 138 positive cases country-wide, and 13 positive cases in capital city Male' on Wednesday.
Maldives has recorded 73,798 positive cases for COVID-19. At present, there are 3,602 active cases, while 69,974 have recovered.
