Pakistan has granted a large sum to the "Geveshi Gulhun" campaign by the Ministry of Gender, Family, and Social Services.
The grant was presented to Gender Minister Aishath Mohamed Didi by Pakistani High Commissioner Retired Vice Admiral Ather Mukhtar in a ceremony held today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Additionally, a joint monitoring mechanism agreement was signed to ensure the project runs efficiently. The grant was a sum of MVR 2,972,205.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Aishath Mohamed Didi expressed her gratitude to Pakistan for their contribution to the Geveshi Gulhun campaign, claiming that the grant symbolizes the close relations of Pakistan and Maldives. She declared that while COVID-19 has caused a surge in reports of domestic violence the project would aid in creating awareness and reducing incidents of violence.
High Commissioner Mukhtar emphasized the importance of the campaign in creating awareness of domestic violence and reinforcing social security. He observed the progress in promoting women in society and commended the apparent absence of gender discrimination in education, and further developments in other sectors.
The High Commissioner also described the long-standing relationship between Maldives and Pakistan, based on similar faith, culture, complete trust, and respect.
