Educational institutions in Islamabad have been closed indefinitely due to security threats, TV channels and media reports said. However, the police say no special order has been issued, and have further claimed that the security situation is under control.
A Geo News report quoted police sources as saying that the violence will increase ahead of the upcoming elections.
In a video statement published in X, Islamabad Police Chief Dr. Akbar Nasir said that several reports were circulating regarding schools and colleges in Islamabad, but claimed that it is “not a big deal.”
Police have spoken out against the closure of universities, but have previously said that unrest is expected in Karachi ahead of the elections.
Two major parties, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Pakistan People's Party, have accused Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) of attacking their offices.
