Parliament representative for Maafannu-North constituency Imthiyaz Fahmy declared that blaming Raaif Anwar, the 13-year-old victim, for his brutal murder was disturbing.
During a discussion regarding the incident initiated by MP for Madaveli constituency Hussain Firushan, MP Imthiyaz condemned the abduction, torture, and murder of the 13-year-old, stressing the importance of preserving the body and soul.
He further stated that gang-related violence and murder were at an all-time high during the former administration’s tenure, not a day passing without incident. “We understand the importance of protecting our people, murder was rampant under the previous government”, he said.
MP Imthiyaz claimed that although there was a significant fall in gang violence, additional measures must be put into place to prevent losses, as acts such as organized terrorism have become widespread.
The parliament passed numerous laws to prevent harm to children, including the laws for children in the justice system, and laws to protect the rights of children. Enforcing these laws will help reduce these incidents.
Imthiyaz mentioned some media outlets published reports targetting the child after he was the victim of a heinous crime. He expressed his concern regarding reports blaming victims of barbaric crimes.
