Theemuge Safest Residence for President: Aslam

Chairman of the Parliament Committee on National Security and parliament representative for Hithadhoo-North constituency Mohamed Aslam stated that the safest place for the current president to reside in is Theemuge, where former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom lived.
The National Security Committee presented its report on amending bills involving those allowed to reside at official residences of the Speaker of Parliament and Chief Justice. MP Aslam proposed that from a security standpoint, Theemuge was the safest place for a president to reside in.
“I believe Theemuge is the safest place for a president, as it was constructed considering strict security measures”, he said.
The May 6 terror attack on former President and incumbent Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed led to discussions concerning official residences of the three powers of the state.
The amendments to the laws in relation to the Parliament Speaker and Chief Justice’s residences were presented to the parliament on behalf of the government
The parliament majority Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) criticized former President Maumoon for continuing to reside in Theemuge. Former President Nasheed declared Muliaage as the new official residence during his tenure. Theemuge currently houses the Supreme Court of Maldives.
