Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem is pleased with the overall investigation into the May 6 attack on former President and incumbent Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed.
At a press conference on Saturday, the PG was confident the investigation into the terrorist attack will conclude in the coming month, and the case will go to trial.
“Our team is also investigating the attack and one of our prosecutors is working with police. The police are consulting us and foreign entities”, said Shameem.
The police are expected to submit their findings on those involved in the attack within the month, and the case is to be taken to court by August 5.
“If we rush, we face the risk of the culprits running free. If we take our time, there is a chance we may lose witnesses”.
The IED detonated in the attack near his home left President Nasheed with serious injuries. He is currently in Germany seeking further treatment.
Five arrests were made in relation to the attack, and police continue to investigate with expert help.
