Economic Minister Fayyaz Ismail has said that the loss the ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) suffered this election was due to the Party not being able to act on their promises. He further noted that this was quite a significant loss from MDP. The Minister stated that the restrictions placed after COVID-19 also played a role in losing public support for the MDP.
Minister Fayyaz further reassured the people that MDP will learn from their mistakes and do better in the next election cycle.
Since 2005, this is the first time that MDP has lost majority in Male’ City during a Local Council Election. Addu City majority was also lost by MDP this time.
MDP Mayoral Candidate Anas Abdul Sattar has conceded and stated that MDP needs to change their policies towards Male’ City in order to succeed.
