92,743 eligible to vote in MDP National Council Elections

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has publicized its final voters' list of 92,743 members for the party's upcoming National Council elections which are scheduled to be held on Saturday.

MDP had publicized a final voters' list on the 11th of September. MDP said the party's committee on elections addressed complaints regarding the list after publishing it.

The party said it addressed complaints received from members of the party and corrections were made by the party’s election committee before compiling the final list.

The party said it addressed complaints received from three different categories before the final list. Which are complaints of registered party members' names being excluded from the list, complaints of non-party members being included in the list, and complaints of party members' names being registered to other political parties, and not being included in the voters' list.

730 candidates will be competing in the election. However,165 candidates who are running uncontested have already been selected to some of the constituencies.

As this is one of the major elections of MDP there will be 300 ballot boxes placed across the country. The party further said that 900 officials will be involved in the elections.
