Removing Dhapparu from Filladhoo's Constituency is a Cruelty to Island Residents: Opposition

The opposition coalition has stated that removing Dhapparu, Haa Alif Atoll from Filladhoo’s jurisdiction is great harm to the residents of Filladhoo.
Dhapparu was part of Filladhoo’s jurisdiction when island jurisdictions were first declared with the amendment to the Decentralization Act. However, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has removed the island from Filladhoo’s jurisdiction by a presidential decree.
The opposition’s statement criticizing President Solih’s decision read that separating Dhapparu from Filladhoo jurisdiction is a selfish decision that violates the principles of the Decentralization Act. The Progressive Party of Maldives’ (PPM) statement also read that the residents of Filladhoo have long been using the island for their benefit, and views Dhapparu as part of their island.
“Removing Dhapparu from Filladhoo’s jurisdiction by use of a presidential decree after the island was included in the jurisdiction following the amendment to the Decentralization Act and after the island has been included in the Filladhoo council’s development plan as a vital source of revenue, is a great cruelty to the residents of Filladhoo”, said PPM.
Filladhoo residents are completely against selling the island to foreigners as part of the Second Home Project, the statement further read. The opposition called for the president to make decisions that benefit the councils and residents in accordance with the Decentralization Act.
They implored President Solih to withdraw his presidential decree separating Dhapparu from Filladhoo’s jurisdiction and to halt the Second Home Project which involves selling the island to foreigners with the intention of benefitting certain people.
The opposition has also called for President Solih to stop unlawful acts that threaten the independence and sovereignty of the Maldives.
