Nasheed Congratulates Male City Mayor-Elect Dr Muizzu

Majlis Speaker, former President Mohamed Nasheed congratulated Dr Mohamed Muizzu for winning the Malé City mayoral race in this year's Local Council Elections.

Mohamed Nasheed is the leader of the ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).

In a statement released on Twitter, Nasheed wrote that he hoped that Dr. Muizzu will work hard to solve the problems facing Malé City, and that he would co-operate with Dr Muizzu in whatever he needed. He further congratulated the MDP for winning a majority over a number of councils in this election.

President Nasheed had used derogatory language and harsh criticism against Dr Muizzu during campaign events leading upto the Local Council Elections.

The ruling MDP lost its majority in Malé City in yesterday's elections for the first time in its history. Its support in Addu City had also declined.
