Maldives Facing Worst Wave of COVID-19 Infections Yet: Dr Nazla Rafeeg

The Maldives is currently facing the worst wave of COVID-19 infections, said Dr Nazla Rafeeg, Health Emergency Operations Centre spokesperson.
In a tweet she published earlier today, Dr Rafeeg wrote: "I can tell you with absolute certainty that this is the worst wave of COVID-19 infections we have had". She wrote that the state of the country was critical, given the "alarmingly high" hospitalization rates and the small number of hospital beds remaining.
She has asked the public to co-operate with the Health Protection Agency's efforts to control the spread of the virus. "It is now or never", she wrote.

She noted that it was "unbelievably simple" to lower one's risk of catching and spreading the virus. She urged the public to practice frequent hand-washing with soap, to wear a mask, to maintain a 3 foot (roughly 1 metre) distance from others, keeping one's social contacts to a minimum, and to remain at home as much as possible.

The Health Protection Agency has extended a nightly ban on vehicle use in the Greater Male Region by 4 hours. The ban currently runs from 1800 hours to 0600 hours, effective tonight.
A curfew from midnight to 4a.m. is also in effect in the Greater Male Region.
