The Progressive Congress, the current opposition, have met with the American ambassador to the Maldives, Alaina Teplitz.
Ambassador Teplitz, resident in Sri Lanka, is currently on a visit to the Maldives for “a week of important meetings”.
Representing the Progressive Congress were vice presidents of the PPM; Ghassan Maumoon and Ahmed Shiyam; and the vice presidents of the PNC; Mohamed Saeed and Mohamed Hussain Shareef.
PNC VP Mohamed Hussain Shareef mentioned in a tweet that many “pertinent issues of mutual importance” had been discussed, including the prison sentence being served by former President Yameen Abdul Gayyoom and the economic hardships faced by the Maldives in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.
It is the practice of the opposition to occasionally meet with foreign ambassadors occasionally.
