Discussions are underway to establish direct air services between the Maldives and Pakistan, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has said, highlighting the potential for stronger tourism and business ties.
Muizzu made the remarks following official talks with Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif during his visit to Pakistan.
The President said he was encouraged by the ongoing discussions and expressed confidence that direct flights would open new opportunities for tourism between the two countries.
He also identified significant potential for cooperation in halal and Muslim-friendly tourism, citing the countries’ shared values and experiences.
Turning to trade and investment, Muizzu said the planned Maldives–Pakistan Business Forum in Pakistan would provide an important opportunity to connect businesses and innovators and strengthen economic relations.
His remarks did not specify an airline, proposed routes or a launch date for direct services.
