Two Sri Lankan Men Arrested After Police Stop Stolen Motorcycle in Malé

Two Sri Lankan men have been arrested on suspicion of using a stolen motorcycle after police stopped the vehicle travelling against one-way traffic in Malé.
Police said the men, aged 29 and 25, were detained following a traffic stop at approximately 2:14 a.m.
Officers patrolling the city spotted the motorcycle travelling from Lonuziyaaraiy Magu into Rukkendiya Hingun against the permitted direction of traffic and stopped it for inspection.
According to police, the rider did not have a driving licence, prompting officers to take the motorcycle to the tow yard.
A subsequent inspection revealed that the registration plate did not correspond to the motorcycle’s engine and chassis numbers. Checks using those identifiers confirmed that the vehicle had been reported stolen, police said.
Both men were arrested on suspicion of using a stolen vehicle. Police said further investigations were underway.
