The Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has opened two proposed financial regulations for public consultation: the Financial Consumer Protection Regulation and the Simplified and Electronic Customer Due Diligence Regulation.
The Financial Consumer Protection Regulation is designed to safeguard the rights of financial service users and enhance consumer protection. Meanwhile, the Customer Due Diligence Regulation, formulated under the Prevention of Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism Act, establishes standards and requirements for customer identification and identity verification.
According to the central bank, the drafts were developed following consultations with financial institutions and relevant authorities. The MMA has invited the public to submit feedback via email to
