The Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) has paid out more than MVR 927 million to fishermen throughout 2025, reflecting strong activity in the vital fisheries sector.
According to the company's latest figures, total disbursements reached MVR 927,867,656 for over 58,000 tonnes of fish weighed during the year. The peak monthly payout occurred in February, with MVR 138.9 million distributed to fishermen.

The year featured several supportive policy measures to bolster the sector. MIFCO raised the purchase price of fish to MVR 16 per kilogramme and lowered fuel prices for fishermen to MVR 13 per litre.
The government has maintained its focus on prioritising fishermen through initiatives such as the National Fishermen’s Register to facilitate better access to finance and a dedicated category for fishermen under the national social housing scheme.
