The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has announced that, beginning January 28, 2026, all tobacco products imported into the Maldives must display health warnings directly printed on the outside of their packaging.
This requirement is part of the first amendment to the "Design and Layout Requirements for Health Warning" under Chapter 5 of the Tobacco Control Act and its regulations, which was gazetted on July 29, 2025. The amendment also covers heated tobacco products and nicotine pouches.
HPA emphasised that any tobacco products imported or sold without compliant packaging and labelling after the effective date will face legal actions under Maldivian law.
The new regulation aims to strengthen public health measures by increasing awareness of the risks associated with tobacco use.
