Maldives Officially Launches Artificial Intelligence Assessment Report to Support National AI Development

The Maldives Artificial Intelligence (AI) Assessment Report was officially launched today during a ceremony at the Islamic Center's Conference Hall, officiated by Home Ministry State Minister and NCIT Chief Dr. Mohamed Kinaanath and UNESCO South Asia Director Tim Curtis.
The report is the culmination of ten months of work by a steering committee formed under UNESCO’s initiative in partnership with the National Centre for Information Technology (NCIT), representing diverse sectors across the Maldives.
Dr. Kinaanath highlighted that the report will provide critical support for implementing President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s technology policies, with a focus on accelerating AI development in the country. He expressed gratitude to UNESCO, the "RAM" steering committee, and NCIT officials for their collaborative efforts.
Developed based on UNESCO’s 2021 “Recommendation on Ethics of Artificial Intelligence,” endorsed by 193 countries, the assessment emphasizes AI’s ethical deployment to ensure inclusivity, equality, human rights, dignity, and environmental sustainability.
The framework aims to promote responsible and transparent AI use for societal benefit, safeguard personal data, and contribute to sustainable development in the Maldives.
