Hulhumalé Hospital has announced the opening of applications for medical internships, allocating 15 positions for eligible medical graduates. The application window opened on June 23 and will remain open until 12:00 PM on July 8.
According to the hospital, if the number of qualified applicants exceeds the available positions, selections will be prioritized based on the MBBS completion date, with preference given to those who completed their degrees earlier. In cases where applicants completed their studies on the same date, priority will be based on the order in which emails are received.
Currently, among government-run institutions, internship opportunities are only available at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH). However, due to growing numbers of medical graduates and mounting pressure on available internship placements, the Ministry of Health is working to introduce internship programs at Addu Equatorial Hospital. In the private sector, ADK Hospital also accepts interns, although candidates are required to pay a fee for placement.
Applicants for Hulhumalé Hospital internships are required to submit the following documents: a copy of their MQA-accredited MBBS certificate, a police clearance certificate, and a Certificate of Provisional Medical Registration issued by the Maldives Medical and Dental Council.
Under the government’s new salary framework for doctors, medical interns at government hospitals will receive a monthly allowance of MVR 10,000.
As per regulations set by the Maldives Medical Council, medical graduates are required to complete a one-year internship after finishing their five to six years of academic training in order to obtain a full license to practice medicine in the country.
