A senior Maldivian healthcare delegation led by Minister of State for Health, Family and Social Welfare Mohamed Mahir has traveled to China’s Sichuan Province for a five-day study and engagement visit.
The delegation includes senior representatives from the Ministry of Health, Maldives Medical and Dental Council (MMDC), Maldives Nursing and Midwifery Council (MNMC), Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), Hulhumalé Hospital, and the Maldives National University (MNU).
During the five-day visit, the delegation is scheduled to tour prominent hospitals, medical schools, and pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities in Sichuan. Extensive discussions are also planned with relevant regional health authorities and institutions.
Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives Kong Xianhua highlighted the trip as a valuable opportunity to strengthen partnerships between Sichuan’s health authorities and Maldivian institutions. He noted that the visit is expected to offer practical insights into healthcare delivery, talent development, capacity building, and pharmaceutical and medical equipment manufacturing practices in China, while urging both sides to explore sustainable cooperation at multiple levels.
