The Maldives Meteorological Service has issued a white alert from Kaafu Atoll (K) to Laamu Atoll (L), warning of severe weather and heavy rainfall. The alert is in effect from 8:45 AM to 2:00 PM today.
According to the Met Office, winds will blow from the west and northwest in the northern and central atolls, and from the southwest and west in the southern atolls, reaching speeds between 7 to 17 mph. During squalls, winds could increase up to 30 mph.
Seas are expected to be moderately rough, turning rough during squalls, with wave heights between 2 to 4 feet.
The current bad weather is attributed to a trough formed in the Maldives region, the Met Office explained, forecasting that conditions are expected to improve by April 11.
