President Muizzu Merges Hulhimendhoo with Maamendhoo in Gaafu Alifu Atoll

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has officially designated Hulhimendhoo Island as part of Maamendhoo Island in Gaafu Alifu Atoll, a move formalized through Presidential Decree No. 08/2025 issued on Saturday.

The amendment, made under Section 56-1(a) of the Decentralization Act (Act No. 07/2010), grants the President the authority to designate areas for both City and Island Councils.

With this change, the updated chart of Maamendhoo Island has now been codified and published in the Government Gazette.

This administrative restructuring aims to streamline governance and development efforts in the region.
