Statistics from the Ministry of Tourism indicate that the number of tourists staying at guesthouses in the Maldives has exceeded 100,000 so far this year, reflecting a growing segment in the country’s tourism industry.
As of February 22, a total of 100,703 tourists have chosen guesthouses for their stay, accounting for 25.9% of all tourist arrivals. Meanwhile, resorts remain the most popular choice, with 68.9% of tourists opting for resort accommodations.
Overall, 389,223 tourists have visited the Maldives so far this year, with an average daily arrival of 7,344 tourists. This marks a 7.3% increase compared to the same period last year, when 362,905 tourists had arrived. In 2023, the figure stood at 313,586 for the same period.
China currently leads as the top source market for the Maldives, with 56,150 arrivals as of February 21, representing 14.4% of total tourist arrivals.
The Maldivian tourism sector now operates 1,139 establishments, including 172 resorts, 797 guesthouses, 155 safari vessels, and 15 hotels, offering a combined capacity of 61,044 beds.
