Maldives Signs Archives Preservation Agreement with Saudi Arabia
The National Archives of Maldives has signed an agreement with Saudi Arabia to enhance cooperation in archives and records preservation.
The agreement was signed by Mohamed Amir Ahmed, Director General of the National Archives, on behalf of the Maldives, and Dr. Faisal Abdulaziz Tamimi, Director General of the Center for Archives and Records, on behalf of Saudi Arabia.
In a social media statement, Foreign Minister Dr. Abdullah Khaleel highlighted that the agreement would play a crucial role in strengthening the protection of the Maldives' historical records and national heritage.
The partnership was established following connections made during Mohamed Amir’s visit to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where he attended the Islamic World Leaders’ Summit.
Under the agreement, both nations will collaborate on key archival areas, including the indexing and preservation of historical materials, management of photographs, maps, and audiovisual records, and the restoration of antiquities. Additionally, it includes provisions for personnel training and the exchange of expertise in modern archiving methods and technologies.
This agreement marks an important step in safeguarding the Maldives' documentary heritage while fostering international cooperation in archival preservation.
