Sheikh Dr. Salah Al-Budair, the esteemed Imam of Masjid al-Nabawi in Madinah, arrived in the Maldives this afternoon on an official visit, marking a historic moment for the nation.
He was welcomed at Velana International Airport with a red carpet reception by Islamic Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, Chief Imam Sheikh Mohamed Lateef, and other senior officials from the Ministry of Islamic Affairs.
The visit was arranged under the counsel of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, with the permission of King Salman bin Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia, as part of the government’s efforts to bring renowned Islamic scholars to the Maldives.
Scheduled Events:
Wednesday: Dr. Salah will lead Maghrib and Isha prayers at King Salman Mosque.
Thursday: He will lead Isha prayer at the Islamic Center, followed by a major public lecture at 8:15 PM with translation provided by Minister Dr. Shaheem.
Friday: He will deliver the Friday sermon and lead prayer at the Islamic Center.
In addition to his religious engagements, Dr. Salah will:
- Pay a courtesy call on President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
- Meet with Minister Shaheem, the Supreme Council for Islamic Fatwa, and young religious leaders, including Khateebs, Hafizs, and Imams.
- Visit the National Center for the Holy Quran and Quran memorization schools.
- Tour the King Salman Mosque, built with Saudi aid.
This marks the first visit in 40 years by an Imam from the Two Holy Mosques to the Maldives, underscoring the close Islamic ties between the Maldives and Saudi Arabia.
