President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has designated Uhdhoo as a picnic island for the southern region of Nilandhe Atoll. Announced during his tour of South Nilandhe Atoll, this move transforms Uhdhoo into a leisure destination for the community. The island, previously privately owned, has now been entrusted to the Ministry of Cities, Local Government, and Public Works for management and travel facilitation.
During his visit to Meedhoo, the President addressed key issues, assuring residents of solutions for housing shortages, waste management through WAMCO, and the operational launch of the RTL ferry system by the end of 2025. Agreements were signed to develop a Waste Management Centre and commence the second phase of Meedhoo’s harbour upgrade, marking significant development progress. He also committed to enhancing sports facilities and resolving school space constraints by 2026.
