The Government of the Republic of Maldives and the Government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have renewed their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Experience Exchange on Government Development and Modernisation. The signing ceremony took place today on the sidelines of the World Government Summit 2025.
His Excellency Abdulla Fayaz, Chief of Staff at the President’s Office, signed the agreement on behalf of the Maldives, while His Excellency Abdulla Nasser Lootah, Deputy Minister of Cabinet Affairs for Competitiveness and Knowledge Exchange, signed on behalf of the UAE.
This MoU reinforces the strong bilateral cooperation between the two nations and aims to enhance the Maldives government’s expertise and work systems through the UAE Government’s Experience Exchange Programme (GEEP). The programme enables Maldives government officials to participate in specialized training programs focused on government development and modernisation.
Since the initial MoU was signed, the Maldives has actively engaged in the UAE’s GEEP for three years. The initiative has played a pivotal role in strengthening learning, innovation, and governance strategies within the Maldivian government. A total of four training programs have been conducted under GEEP, benefiting 128 government personnel, including civil servants and senior officials.
This renewal underscores the continued commitment of both governments to fostering institutional excellence and knowledge-sharing for sustainable governance and innovation.
