RasMale' city which is being developed as a solution to the housing crisis in greater Male' area, would be connected to Male' by an undersea tunnel, the President said.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of the new Mayor of Male' city council and newly elected councilors at Dharubaaruge last night, the President said the undersea tunnel to connect Rasmala and Male' would be the first of its kind in the world.
The President said the RasMale' project is based on a quality policy to solve the housing problem in the Male' area. The housing problem needs to be solved by developing land-rich Islands, he said, adding that the housing shortage in the Male' area cannot be solved without land being produced in this area.
The President said that the technical and innovative works have been initiated to connect RasMale' and Male' and the discussions have been started with competent companies.
The President said the tunnel would be traveled by train. The train will also offer beautiful underwater views. The President said that he is in discussions with companies with the capacity to carry out the project.
Describing the tunnel project as a huge tourism project the president declared that the project would significantly increase the number of tourists visiting Maldives.
