Empowerment Hub for Differently-Abled Persons to Be Established in Hulhumalé Phase II

The Gender Ministry has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation Limited to establish an Empowerment Hub designed to provide training and skills development opportunities for persons with disabilities.
The agreement was signed by Minister of State Ahmed Athif on behalf of the Gender Ministry and Managing Director Hamdhan Shakeel on behalf of Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation Limited. The initiative targets individuals aged 18 to 40 years and aims to facilitate their transition into society after completing the school process.
Spanning 5,500 square feet in Hulhumalé Phase II, the Empowerment Hub will feature various facilities, including:
- An inclusive café for hospitality and culinary training and work experience.
- An open shop to market and sell products created by differently-abled individuals.
- Three workshop spaces for skill development.
- A computer and IT training facility for interest-specific programs.
- An activity room and multimedia room to encourage social interaction and engagement.
The Gender Ministry emphasized that the hub aims to promote meaningful societal participation and economic independence for persons with disabilities. Civil society, disability care institutions, and persons with disabilities are expected to play a pivotal role in the project's success.
In the coming weeks, discussions and briefing sessions will be conducted to engage stakeholders and provide further details on the project.
