100 million MVR has been allocated to a loan program for female entrepreneurs, which will be disbursed soon.
The Minister of Social and Family Development, Dr. Aishath Shiham, inaugurated the Hiyala Weekend Market last night, which is part of the government's "14 Week Roadmap,” along with the loan program. The government is looking to empower women through greater opportunities to become involved in business.
The event was opened with a special performance of a female Bodu Beru group. The market is a stage for female entrepreneurs to promote their businesses and sell the products that they have made. At last night’s market, there was a sale of baked goods from several vendors, along with a sale of children’s books.
Minister Shiham said a special loan will be introduced soon to provide financial assistance to small businesses.
The market is part of the government's 14-week roadmap, which has plans for the provision of a special area for the sale of women's products in Hulhumalé.
Minister Shiham said the market will further facilitate business opportunities for women entrepreneurs. She stated that it is a thrill for many women entrepreneurs to meet in one place and work towards the same goal.
Two promises made by the government for the market will be fulfilled very soon, she said.
"....The 100 million MVR loan for women will be disbursed soon. At the same time, a special loan for small businesses will be introduced soon,” Minister Aishath said.
The market for women entrepreneurs in Hulhumalé is held at the Container Park area on Friday and Saturday from 16:00 to 23:00.
