Residents Evacuated Due to Ministry Fire Return to Their Homes

All residents temporarily displaced by the fire that broke out in a building housing three government ministries in Malé have now returned to their homes, according to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). The fire, which erupted on the 12th of this month, caused extensive damage and led to the evacuation of nearby residents due to heavy smoke and safety concerns.
The blaze originated in the Construction Ministry and rapidly spread to the Environment Ministry, affecting several key government offices, including the Housing Ministry, Construction & Infrastructure Ministry, Environment Ministry, the Environment Protection Agency (EPA), and the Malé City Council office.
The NDMA had provided temporary shelter to 29 individuals whose homes were impacted by the incident. A media official from NDMA confirmed that as of the 22nd of this month, all those evacuated have safely moved back to their residences.
The incident has raised significant concerns about safety protocols and the structural integrity of government facilities. Police have enlisted the help of an international team to investigate the cause of the fire, underscoring the severity of the incident and the importance of a thorough inquiry.
This fire marks one of the most severe in recent history to affect government operations in the capital city, prompting questions about emergency preparedness and response measures.
