Maldives Records Increased Resort and Safari Occupancy Amid Tourism Growth

The Maldives has reported a significant rise in resort and safari occupancy rates for the first ten months of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023, according to data from the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA).
The MMA’s Monthly Report for November highlighted an increase in resort occupancy from 66.3% in 2023 to 70.8% this year, while safari occupancy rose from 23.4% to 26.6%. However, local tourism saw a decline, with guesthouse occupancy dropping from 40.8% to 36.1%.
Tourism infrastructure also expanded, with the Maldives now offering 42,068 beds across 170 resorts, 14,503 beds in 860 guesthouses, and 2,909 beds in 150 safaris.
The Ministry of Tourism revealed that tourist arrivals have reached 1.9 million so far this year, an 8.8% increase from the same period in 2023. The government is optimistic about reaching its target of hosting 2 million tourists by December 25, supported by current arrival trends.
Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal previously expressed confidence in achieving this milestone, which highlights the sector’s strong recovery and growth trajectory.
