Ministry Staff Completes Training on Sustainable Coastal Protection in Japan

The Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy recently facilitated the participation of three professionals in a specialised training programme on "Sustainable Coastal Protection Measures for Island Countries." The programme, held in Japan from November 24 to December 19, 2024, focused on equipping participants with advanced expertise in coastal resilience and sustainable development.
The training covered a wide array of coastal protection strategies, including structural approaches like beach nourishment and non-structural methods. The curriculum incorporated detailed case studies highlighting successful and unsuccessful coastal protection efforts, providing participants with a well-rounded understanding of sustainable practices.
Upon returning to the Maldives, the participants presented individual action plans to the Ministry's Coastal Section and other technical experts. These sessions facilitated the exchange of actionable insights and fostered discussions on practical steps for implementing sustainable coastal protection measures in the Maldives.
The Ministry's initiative underscores its commitment to enhancing coastal resilience, addressing the unique challenges faced by island nations, and fostering sustainable development across the region.
