The Ministry of Climate Change, Environment, and Energy has signed a contract with Ritariworks Pvt Ltd to provide consultancy services for improving the transport sector's data management system.
This initiative, part of the Capacity Building for Improved Transparency of Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Actions in the Maldives (CBIT Maldives) project, aims to create a secure and efficient system for accessing transport-related data crucial for compiling Greenhouse Gas (GHG) inventories. The project is funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and supported by the United Nations Environment Programme.
Key deliverables include the development of a secure data-sharing interface integrated with a new CMS-based website for the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation and a Roadworthiness System for collecting odometer data. These tools will enhance the accuracy and reliability of GHG inventories.
The contract signing ceremony, held on Monday, was attended by Permanent Secretary Ajwad Musthafa from the Climate Ministry and Managing Director Ahmed Shareef representing Ritariworks Pvt Ltd.
According to the Ministry, these activities align with the Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF) of the Paris Agreement. The CBIT Maldives project focuses on strengthening institutional arrangements, systemizing data collection, and developing methodologies and indicators.
By improving the quality and management of GHG inventories and tracking climate mitigation and adaptation actions, this initiative aims to support informed national decision-making and ensure transparent reporting to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
