The Maldives Meteorological Service (Met Office) has warned of worsening weather conditions over the next four days, starting tomorrow, December 19. This shift is attributed to the transitional phase between the westerly and easterly monsoons, increasing the likelihood of thunderstorms across the region.
According to reports from the Met Office via PSM, the central and southern atolls will experience the most significant impact during this period, with forecasts predicting strong winds and rough seas from Thursday through Sunday. Northern atolls are also expected to see a decline in weather conditions, though to a lesser extent.
The agency has cautioned that rough seas may result in swells affecting some islands. Travelers are urged to exercise caution, especially those journeying by sea during this turbulent phase.
The current rainy spell is projected to clear up by Monday, December 23, signalling an improvement in weather conditions.
