Vice President Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef reiterated the Maldives’ steadfast commitment to the One-China Principle during his opening remarks at the Group Meeting of the Third China-Indian Ocean Region Forum on Blue Economy Development Cooperation. The event, presided over by Wang Yong, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), was held in Kunming, China.
Expressing gratitude to the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) and the Yunnan Provincial People’s Government for their exceptional hospitality, the Vice President lauded China as a trusted and reliable partner of the Maldives. He emphasized that adherence to the One-China Principle remains the cornerstone of stable diplomatic relations between the two nations.
Highlighting the significance of the forum, Vice President Latheef described it as a critical platform for fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing between Indian Ocean Region countries and China. He particularly noted the forum’s role in advancing sustainable blue economy initiatives, which are vital for the economic and environmental well-being of the region.
The Vice President concluded his participation by joining a group photo with Chinese government officials and international dignitaries, underscoring the spirit of partnership and diplomacy that defines the forum.
