MPL to auction unclaimed goods held at Malé Commercial Harbour

Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has announced plans to auction goods imported into the Maldives that have remained unclaimed at Malé Commercial Harbour for an extended period.
According to MPL, only subscribers to the company’s auction portal will be eligible to participate in the auction. The auction will be conducted online through MPL’s auction portal.
Bidding will open at 2:00 p.m. on August 25 and close at 2:00 p.m. on August 26.
Prospective bidders will be allowed to inspect the goods at 4:30 p.m. on August 24. Those wishing to inspect the items must register through the auction portal before 3:30 p.m. on the same day.
Access to the port area for inspection will be subject to port safety requirements. Visitors must wear appropriate footwear, including safety shoes or regular boots.
MPL said bidding will remain open for five minutes after the latest bid is submitted. If another bid is placed during those five minutes, an additional five-minute period will be granted. The auction will close once five minutes pass without a new bid.
The auction will be conducted in accordance with MPL’s Goods Auction Regulations published in the Government Gazette on October 17, 2022.
Goods designated for sale as scrap may only be cleared for re-export, according to the notice. The successful bidder will also be responsible for obtaining any approvals or permits required from relevant government authorities for the release of the goods, including chemical permits from the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), vehicle permits from the Transport Authority and approvals from the Ministry of Agriculture.
Successful bidders will be provided with a 10-day free storage period to clear their purchased goods.
MPL also said that any goods that remain unsold in the auction may subsequently be offered for a second auction through the company’s auction portal.
The official Government Gazette confirms that MPL has been conducting auctions of long-unclaimed goods held at Malé Commercial Harbour.
