The Japanese government has extended a grant of 300 million Japanese Yen (approximately MVR 33,254,780.00) to bolster the operational capacity and mobility of the Maldives' Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). The agreement was formalized through an Exchange of Notes between the two governments, signed by Maldives' Foreign Minister Dr. Abdullah Khaleel and Japanese Ambassador Takeuchi Midori.
The project, undertaken as part of Japan's Economic and Social Development Program, aims to strengthen the Maldives' efforts to combat corruption and promote transparency and accountability. During the signing ceremony, Foreign Minister Khaleel underscored the significance of this assistance in reinforcing anti-corruption measures and expressed profound gratitude to Japan for its consistent support in the Maldives' development journey.
Highlighting the enduring partnership between the two nations, Minister Khaleel acknowledged Japan's pivotal role in advancing Maldivian institutions and fostering national development. He emphasized that this project marks another milestone in the collaborative relationship between the two countries.
Adam Shamil, President of the ACC, attended the ceremony alongside senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Japanese Embassy, and the Anti-Corruption Commission. The initiative is expected to enhance the ACC's capacity to address corruption more effectively, furthering good governance in the Maldives.
