HDC Initiates EIA for Hulhumalé Water Theme Park Development

The Managing Director of Housing Development Corporation (HDC), Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed, announced that the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the water theme park project in Hulhumalé is underway. The statement was made during a Public Accounts Committee session in Parliament.

Fazul described the water park as a long-standing issue that has yet to be addressed. He outlined HDC’s plans for a comprehensive recreational area featuring a water theme park, go-kart tracks, and other facilities designed for children.

An MoU has been signed with a Sri Lankan company, and the design work for the project is currently in progress. Fazul stated that the EIA process for certain areas is ongoing to facilitate the start of the project. Once the EIA is completed, HDC will proceed with sand dumping and dredging to prepare the site.

Construction is expected to commence next year, with HDC aiming to develop the area into a fully operational adventure park in the near future.
