Ministry of Tourism has announced a significant expansion in the Maldivian tourism sector, with over 1,200 new beds added this year.
According to ministry statistics, the year began with 13,657 beds across 809 guest houses. As of December 2, the number has risen to 15,325 beds in 909 guest houses, marking an increase of 1,214 beds. Additionally, 100 new guest houses were inaugurated this year, further strengthening the guest house sector.
The total operational bed capacity across the tourism industry now stands at 62,864 beds. This includes:
42,539 beds in resorts
15,325 beds in guest houses
3,044 beds in safaris
1,956 beds in hotels
The Maldives currently hosts 171 resorts, 909 guest houses, 155 safaris, and 14 hotels, reflecting the ongoing growth of the sector.
This steady expansion underscores the Maldives' commitment to diversifying its tourism offerings and accommodating the growing demand from international visitors.
