The Chinese government has donated 100 solar-powered street lights to the K. Guraidhoo Council, marking a gesture of goodwill and strengthening bilateral ties between the Maldives and China.
At a special ceremony, the street lights were handed over by the Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives, Wang Lixin, representing the Chinese government. Cities, Local Governance, and Public Works Minister Adam Sharif Umar accepted the donation on behalf of the Maldivian government.
Ambassador Wang Lixin emphasized the longstanding relationship between the two nations, reaffirming China’s commitment to supporting the Maldives. "The road lighting assistance to Guraidhoo is a result of the discussions between our leaders to further strengthen relations. Following President Dr. Muizzu’s visit to China, numerous collaborative initiatives have been undertaken, enhancing our ties," said the Ambassador.
The solar street lights, aimed at improving infrastructure and sustainability in K. Guraidhoo, are expected to arrive in the Maldives later this month or in early January, according to the Chinese Embassy.
