The Parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee has approved the appointment of Fuad Thaufeeq as the Maldives Ambassador to Thailand. The decision was made during a committee meeting held this afternoon, where nine out of ten members present voted in favor.
The motion to appoint Fuad was proposed by Villigili MP Azim Abdul Aziz, who cited that Fuad fulfills the qualifications outlined under Article 15 of the Foreign Service Act for ambassadorial positions. The proposal was seconded by Maafannu South MP Abdulla Rifau.
Fuad’s term as President of the Elections Commission ended on November 30, 2024. A seasoned public servant, he held the role of Elections Commission President twice, from September 2009 to March 2014, and again from September 2021 until last month.
