A 25-year-old Air India pilot, Srishti Tuli, was found dead in her rented flat in Mumbai on Monday, in what authorities have classified as a suspected suicide. Her boyfriend, 27-year-old Aditya Pandit, has been arrested under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for abetment of suicide, following allegations of emotional abuse and harassment lodged by her family.
Srishti’s uncle, Vivekkumar Narendrakumar Tuli, filed a complaint with Powai police, citing instances of persistent humiliation and manipulation during her relationship with Aditya. The complaint revealed that Aditya frequently pressured Srishti to alter her lifestyle, including giving up non-vegetarian food, and subjected her to public humiliation.
According to the FIR, one such incident occurred in March this year during a dinner with family and friends in Gurugram. When Srishti and others suggested ordering non-vegetarian food, Aditya insulted her in front of the group. After an argument, the couple left to dine elsewhere but Aditya later abandoned her on the road, forcing Srishti to call her cousin Rashi for help.
The FIR also recounts an incident in 2022 when Aditya used Vivekkumar’s car to take Srishti and Rashi shopping in Delhi. Following an argument, he reportedly used derogatory language against Srishti and drove recklessly, damaging the car. Despite the incident, Aditya appeared indifferent to the consequences.
Srishti’s family stated that Aditya’s behavior often left her distressed and anxious. On one occasion, Aditya insisted she attend a family event despite her scheduled duties as a pilot. When she refused, he blocked her phone number for nearly two weeks, exacerbating her emotional strain.
Srishti reportedly confided in her cousin about the mental toll of the relationship, expressing feelings of entrapment and helplessness. Despite recognizing the toxic nature of the relationship, she struggled to end it, as she was deeply attached to Aditya.
Her body was discovered at her residence in Andheri’s Marol area, where she allegedly hanged herself using a data cable. No suicide note was found at the scene.
Aditya was arrested on Tuesday and presented before a magistrate, who ordered his custody until November 29. Police are continuing their investigation into the allegations and gathering evidence to substantiate the claims made in the FIR.
