The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC/Visit Maldives) hosted a celebratory event on November 27, 2024, at the Waterfront, Velana International Airport, to mark the nation’s remarkable achievements at the World Travel Awards 2024. The Maldives retained the title of 'World’s Leading Destination' for the fifth consecutive year and earned the accolade of 'World’s Leading Green Destination' for the first time.
The event was attended by notable dignitaries, including Minister of Tourism Ibrahim Faisal, MMPRC CEO and Managing Director Ibrahim Shiuree, and Maldives Airports Company CEO and Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed.
In his address, MMPRC CEO Ibrahim Shiuree expressed pride in the nation’s accolades, emphasizing the collective effort behind the success. “These prestigious awards reflect our unwavering commitment to exceptional travel experiences and sustainable tourism practices. They are a testament to the dedication and hard work of our tourism stakeholders who continually elevate the Maldives as a world-class destination,” he stated.
As part of the celebrations, a newly designed "Maldives signage" was unveiled at the Velana International Airport, enhancing the country's global brand visibility. This addition serves as a symbolic reminder of the Maldives’ achievements and its position as a leading tourist destination.
