The Maldives has once again affirmed its status as a premier travel destination, securing two prestigious accolades at the World Travel Awards (WTA) 2025 – Indian Ocean Category. The awards were presented during the Africa & Indian Ocean Gala Ceremony held on 28th June 2025 at Johari Rotana, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
- At the ceremony, Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) — also known as Visit Maldives — was honoured with the titles of:
- Indian Ocean's Leading Destination 2025 (for the sixth consecutive year)
- Indian Ocean's Leading Green Destination 2025 (for the second consecutive year)
MMPRC’s CEO and Managing Director, Mr. Ibrahim Shiuree, accepted the awards on behalf of the Maldives. Speaking at the event, Mr. Shiuree stated, “These accolades for the Maldives tourism industry are incredibly significant. They highlight the Maldives' position as an unmatched tourist destination, underscore our nation's dedication to providing unforgettable experiences for visitors globally, and affirm MMPRC's ongoing efforts to promote and develop our tourism sector.”
