The Maldives is poised to achieve another tourism milestone, with the government projecting 2.4 million tourist arrivals for 2025, surpassing the 2.2 million forecasted in the national budget.
Minister of Tourism Ibrahim Faisal announced this ambitious target while sharing insights on the tourism industry’s outlook. "The major markets have shown remarkable progress compared to previous years. Arrivals from key markets like China, Germany, and Russia have increased significantly," he noted.
To achieve this goal, the government plans to expand promotional efforts into untapped markets, bolstering its already strong tourism performance.
Record-breaking Year Ahead
Minister Faisal highlighted that 2024 is set to be a record-breaking year, with the 2 millionth tourist expected to arrive on December 26. This milestone will mark the Maldives' highest annual tourist arrivals to date.
The country has already welcomed 1,797,028 visitors in 2024, a 9.2% increase compared to 2023. To reach the 2 million mark, 353,673 tourists are expected to arrive in December, with daily arrivals projected to peak at 8,000 during the high season.
“This year, we reached 1 million tourists a month earlier than last year, underscoring the sustained growth in the sector,” Minister Faisal stated.
Sustained Growth for the Future
The Ministry of Tourism remains optimistic about maintaining this upward trajectory, with efforts to diversify and strengthen the Maldives' appeal to global travelers. By fostering key partnerships and tapping into new markets, the government aims to cement the Maldives as a top-tier tourist destination.
