Maldives has won the World Travel Awards (WTA) "World's Leading Destination Award" for the fifth time.
This is the fifth consecutive time that Maldives has won the award and Ibrahim Faisal Minister of Tourism has received the award at the ceremony held in Madeira, Portugal.
In addition to this prestigious award, Maldives has also won the World's Leading Green Destination Award this year.
Along with this ,Maldives has won several awards in the Indian Ocean category of the World Travel Awards earlier this year.
Maldives won the Leading Destination, Leading Honeymoon Destination, Leading Green Destination and Leading Dive Destination awards in the Indian Oceans category at the awards ceremony held at the Arabian Travel Market (ATM).
Referring to the World Leading Destination Award, Minister Faisal said Maldives receives such prestigious awards due to the hard work of all stakeholders in the tourism sector.These awards will further promote Maldives as a destination, he said.
