39 Individuals Arrested in Immigration Operation Targeting Fishing Boats

n a recent operation, 39 individuals were arrested by the Immigration Task Force during an inspection of fishing boats moored in the fish market area. Controller of Immigration, Mohammed Shahman Waheed, shared details of the operation in a statement posted on X, confirming that the search was conducted thoroughly, resulting in the detention of 39 people for immigration-related matters.

The government has outlined plans to extend this operation across all villages in Sri Lanka within the coming year, with the aim of consolidating data on all foreign nationals residing in the country into a centralized database. Additionally, the government is committed to implementing a comprehensive solution to address the issue of foreigners within the next three years.

As of November 17, the government has successfully met its target of deporting 5,000 illegal immigrants, marking a historic milestone in Sri Lanka's immigration enforcement efforts.
