Maldives Women’s Football Team Departs for SAFF Championship in Nepal

The Maldives women’s national football team has departed for Kathmandu, Nepal, to participate in the 2024 Women’s SAFF Championship, which will take place from October 17 to October 30. This year’s tournament will feature teams from seven Asian nations, all competing for the regional title.
Before their departure, the team met with Minister of Sports and Health Abdulla Rafiu, who provided words of encouragement and presented jerseys to the players and officials. The minister urged the team to display strong performances and maintain exemplary sportsmanship during the tournament.
The team, under the guidance of experienced coach Mohamed Nizam (commonly known as Nizambe), hopes to improve on previous performances and make a mark in the regional competition.
The SAFF Championship, an important fixture in the South Asian sports calendar, serves as a significant opportunity for the Maldives women’s team to demonstrate their progress and compete at an international level. With a strong focus on improving women's football in the Maldives, the team's participation reflects the increasing emphasis on developing female athletes in the nation.
