Maldives has placed its bid to host the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Championship, one of the most competitive games among SAARC countries.
President of Football Association of Maldives (FAM) Bassam Adil Jaleel revealed that Maldives has placed its bid to host this year's SAFF Championship, with the aim to hold international events in Maldives.
In a tweet, Bassam thanked President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and Minister of Youth, Sports, and Community Empowerment Ahmed Mahloof for their continued support. The tournament was first set to be held in Bangladesh. However, it was postponed due to the COVID-19 situation in the country.
While Bangladesh has left the opportunity to host open, in addition to Maldives, India and Nepal have also expressed interest in hosting the games. SAFF is aiming to decide upon a host country in early September, and hold completion in October.
